The 30 Best Online Christian Colleges in the U.S. 2015

Online Christian Colleges - Top Schools 2015By Ben Karleen
Posted February 2015

This ranking examines the best online Christian colleges and universities in the U.S. in 2015.

Online learning has exploded options for students. That exceptional college on the other side of the country that you admired from afar, but that was off limits to you geographically, is now accessible from your kitchen table. And now with more and more Christian colleges offering fully online degree programs, it is easier than ever to be educated at the particular Christian institution that best aligns with your own understanding of the Christian life.

Methodology for Ranking the Top Online Christian Colleges 2015

To help you narrow down your search, we ranked Christian Colleges and Universities by our own point system. Note that all of the institutions considered had to indicate a Christian commitment and be accredited either by the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities or a regional accrediting body. Furthermore, a school had to have at least five degree programs (not just isolated courses) offered fully online at the bachelor’s level or above. Here’s how the ranking works:

1. Breadth of program choice. Having numerous degrees to choose from is a key feature of a quality online program. If an institution had twenty or more programs at the bachelor’s level or above (with degree completion programs, such as RN to BSN, being excluded), it was awarded 2 points. This information was gathered from the school’s website.
2. Affordability. A major motivation for taking a degree online is avoiding transportation costs in time and energy. Affordability is also a major deciding point for online students, so colleges with a tuition of less than $15,000 annually at the bachelor’s level (based on two 12-credit semesters and excluding extra fees) were awarded 1 point. This information was also gathered from the school’s website.
3. Student support. The percentage of students who start a program and are able to finish it gives some indication of the measure of support given by faculty and staff. Where overall graduation rate is 50% or greater, schools were awarded 1 point. This information was gathered from CollegeNavigator.
4. Financial aid. Financial aid contributes even more to affordability. Where the percentage of all students (not just freshman) receiving financial aid was 85% or greater, a school received 1 point. This information was gathered from CollegeNavigator.

Schools that received the same number of points were then ranked by the number of online programs offered. A further tie was broken by the more affordable school. Here are our top thirty excellent choices for a Christian online degree.
