Established in 1948, Southwestern Christian College (SwCC) is a private four-year college in Terrell, Texas. It is operated by the Churches of Christ and offers associate and bachelor’s degree programs. It also offers an online program for students who want to avoid attending classes on campus owing to tight work schedules and other factors.

Southwestern Christian College is dedicated to providing a holistic education that will train its students to achieve academic excellence while developing their moral and spiritual values. The school’s college education is aimed at preparing students for their future vocations and for a successful Christian living.

Location

SwCC was originally the Southern Bible Institute situated in Fort Worth, Texas. The school board, however, eventually purchased the Texas Military College in Terrell which is now the new campus of the Southwestern Christian College. Inside the campus can be found the first Round House in the U.S. built by Terrell.

Tuition

A full-time student at SwCC can expect to pay a total of $6,121.65 for each semester. This amount includes the tuition, room and board, books and supplies, insurance as well as other school fees. Each credit hour costs $259.00 for the total 19 hours required each semester.

Financial Aid

This Christian college helps make tertiary education affordable to its students. It provides support services including financial assistance in the form of grants, loans and scholarships. In fact, all first-time undergraduates in SwCC receive financial aid including grants and scholarships while 51 percent are able to avail of student loans.

Student Population

SwCC has a student population less than 300 covering both full-time and part-time learners. Students can avail of a fee tutoring program in various subjects to assist them in completing their assignments and preparing for the quizzes and exams. This is part of the programs of the Center for Student Success.

Academic Areas of Study

Southwestern Christian College offers Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degree programs as well as a Bachelor of Science degree program focusing on religious studies. Courses covered in the bachelor degree program are Bible, English, history, humanities, math, natural science, physical education, psychology, religion and psychology among others. Earning a Bachelor of Science degree from SwCC also requires two 1-hour internships and completion of 95 semester hours in order for a student to graduate.

Primary Accreditation

SwCC received its accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in 1973. Currently, it is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Athletic Teams

Southwestern Christian College values the importance of physical development in providing education to its students. As such, it has an athletic team that competes in basketball (men’s), basketball and volleyball (women’s) as well as in track and field for both men and women. Currently, SwCC has 11 student athletes in the track and field team alone.

Scholarships are offered to those who qualify to become members of the school’s athletic team. In 2010, the institution awarded $240,000 in financial assistance to students including the athletes.
