About Nyack College

Nyack College is a private college in New York City, New York. It has a long affiliation with the Christian and Missionary Alliance. Founded as the Missionary Training Institute, it opened with a small campus in NYC in 1882 and trained students who wanted to do missionary work. The founder of the college wanted to prepare students for the hardships they would face in the field and make sure that they could help those in need. After getting a charter in the 1940s, the institute added its first bachelor’s degree program and later added more degree choices for both undergrads and graduate students. It would introduce a doctoral program for pastors and other professionals too.

Since becoming Nyack College in the early 1970s, the college added even more degree programs and established a larger campus in Manhattan. The college announced that it would shutter the campus in Nyack and use only the Manhattan campus but retain the Nyack name. Having just one campus allows the college to focus closely on its students and their needs. Enrollment at Nyack College now includes more than 2,700 students.

Nyack College Application Requirements

With an acceptance rate of nearly 100%, Nyack College provides most students with the chance to get a college degree. The application process for undergrads is the same whether they apply to an online program or one of the programs available in New York City. Students will submit an application and send in their official high school transcripts and either an ACT or SAT score. Nyack also asks for a pastoral recommendation form from the student’s pastor or another religious leader. They will also need to interview with a faculty member and apply for financial aid. Those accepted by the college must also provide their immunization records and pay an enrollment deposit.

The graduate and theology programs offered by the college have similar requirements, including the Nyack application and their college transcripts. They must submit transcripts that show when they earned their degrees and the types of degrees they have. Those who haven’t yet finished a bachelor’s degree can submit an unofficial transcript. Most of the Nyack programs also require at least one recommendation form from a pastor or letters of recommendation from other references, including both academic and professional references. Students may need to submit a test score or a writing sample also.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Graduate students pay Nyack between $585 and $800 per credit hour for their classes and fees based on the number of credits they take every semester.

Nyack offers financial aid packages that include grants and scholarships because it wants students to graduate with as little debt as possible.
