Degree Programs Offered at Corban University

Corban University appears in our ranking of the Top 50 Online Christian Colleges for Future Missionaries.

Corban University offers multiple degree programs through four different schools. The School of Arts and Sciences is the largest and offers 27 degree programs. Students in the criminal justice program can learn how to use their past experiences in their writing. They also critique their peers’ work and have their own work critiqued. Those with an interest in non-fiction writing may prefer the university’s journalism program, which allows them to do internships and work for leading publications. Some of the other majors available from this school include applied kinesiology, communication, liberal arts, family studies, worship arts, and sports and recreation management.

Twelve programs are available from its School of Education, including an associate program for para-professionals who want to help children and teachers. Students who have a bachelor’s degree can enroll in a graduate program that helps them meet the requirements to become a licensed teacher in Oregon. The school also offers programs for those who want to teach math, language arts, social studies, physical education, and other subjects.

The Corban is the nickname given to the university’s MBA program, which is available from the Hoff School of Business. This school also offers online programs in marketing, accounting and leadership, and management. The leadership and management program is available on the Corban University campus too. Corban offers a popular agribusiness program through this school too. It includes practical experiences and opportunities for students to work in some of the vineyards and farms across Oregon.

Corban University also has a School of Ministry. This school offers a Master of Divinity, which is a joint program with the Western Seminary. Students in this program should already have some ministry experience and plan to work as full-time ministers. A separate Master of Ministry program accepts students with less experience. Corban offers intercultural degree programs in both education and general studies for those who want to work outside the United States or with people from foreign countries.

About Corban University

Corban University is a former Bible school that now serves as a Christian university. Founded in 1935, it opened as the Phoenix Bible Institute in Phoenix, Arizona. This institute moved to California 11 years later and changed its name to the Western Baptist Bible College. After moving to another California city, the college moved to Salem, Oregon and established a campus that students still use today. That last move led to the college becoming Corban College and then Corban University after it gained regional accreditation and adopted a new curriculum.

The university uses faith as one of its founding principles and instills in students a strong commitment to the Christian faith. Many of its students attend religious services on the campus each week, and all students take a few religious study courses. Those classes teach students how their faith can help them and how they can use their beliefs in any professional field. U.S. News and World Report ranked Corban at number five on a list of the best schools in the western region. The university has an enrollment of more than 1,000 undergrads and around 200 post-bachelor students.

Corban University Accreditation Details

Regional accreditation is what lets schools across the nation accept the credits that students earned in the past and to award those students financial aid packages. Corban University has regional accreditation from the NWCCU, which is an educational organization that accredits schools in the northwest United States.

Corban University Application Requirements

Corban University has just two application requirements and one optional step. Undergrads pay a $40 application fee when they submit the university’s online application. Corban recommends that students take their time and that they look over the application a few times before they submit to make sure that they did not miss any sections. Students will then submit all the additional information the university requires, including their transcripts and standardized test scores. The university accepts both the SAT and ACT. Undergrads will also need to fill out an online Statement of Faith to show that they have the same religious beliefs as the university. Corban recommends that students schedule a tour of its campus too.

The primary requirements for grad school students include a GPA of 3.0 or higher, a bachelor’s degree from an accredited school and an application, which has a $50 fee. This application includes three essays and asks students to write a response of two to three paragraphs in length for each one. Those questions will ask how they plan to use their faith as they work and what they think Corban can do for them. The university also asks for official transcripts, a professional reference and a reference who can speak to the Christian character of the applicant. Corban has an early decision application deadline of March 1 and a final deadline of June 1. It will schedule interviews with students within two weeks of receiving their applications.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Undergrads attending Corban University pay $32,380 each year for tuition. The cost of fees and room and board will add to that cost and bring their totals up to $43,268 per year. Undergrads can also take classes part-time for $1,350 per credit hour. If they take one or more online classes, they’ll pay $420 per credit hour. Graduate students also pay per credit hour rates, which range from $395 in ministry programs to $499 in the MBA program. Students who do internships or independent study projects will pay fees for those programs. They also pay fees for study abroad programs.

The average financial aid package that an incoming freshman gets will include more than $27,000. Students can multiply their grade point averages by their test scores and compare that number to the figures listed in the university’s financial aid brochure to see what types of aid they will get. They only need a GPA of 3.0 and a score of 990/19 on the SAT/ACT to get aid. The director’s scholarship provides them with $10,000 a year, but the presidential scholarship gives students $17,000 a year. They can renew those prizes for four full years and use the scholarships with any government aid they get. Corban University encourages all majors to use the FAFSA and apply for financial aid as they enter one of its degree programs.
