Degree Programs Available at Huntington University

With more than 30 undergraduate degree programs, Huntington University allows students to pick majors that appeal to them. It has a still deciding option that is suitable for students who can’t pick a major and a worship leadership program for those who want to work for their churches. The agricultural studies program prepares students for running farms and working in the industry and includes an internship option for those who need or want more experience. Huntington also has a customized major that allows students to work with their advisors to create a specialized degree program.

Graduate programs are available from five departments in the university including the Institute for Leadership and Counseling. Students can get a Master of Arts in Counseling through a residential program that includes up to 60 credits of classes. This program also requires that students do three internships and one practicum. The institute offers a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership too. An occupational therapy program helps students become comfortable with patients and with advising them, while education programs provide extra training to teachers and those who want to become teachers. Huntington also has a Master of Business Administration (MBA) program and programs in ministry and missions.

Students can earn degrees online from Huntington University too. The university’s social work program is a hybrid option that includes residencies and fieldwork as well as classroom work. Adult students can enroll in a social work program that makes use of their past credits and helps them finish their work faster. Other programs designed for adults let them major in business, psychology or teaching English as a second language. Some of the fields students can study online beyond social work include psychology, ministry and missions, education, business, and criminal justice.

About Huntington University

Huntington University is a private university named for the city of Huntington, Indiana. Established in 1897 as Central College, it became Huntington College in 1917 and received regional accreditation in the 1960s. It wasn’t until 2005 that the school became Huntington University. The Church of the United Brethren in Christ helped found the university and remains affiliated with it today. Also known as HU, the university has a large campus in Indiana that sits on 160 acres of land. That campus is home to the Thornhill Nature Preserve, which is popular with locals and students. This preserve has 77 acres of space and offers special programs for students that help them develop strong team building and leadership skills.

HU also has a second campus in Arizona that it established in more recent times. Known as the Huntington University Arizona Center for Digital Media Arts, it offers programs for artists and designers. Students can do internships in Phoenix and other major cities and find work in production houses across the country. While Forbes included HU on a list of the nation’s best colleges, U.S. News and World Report ranked Huntington as one of the best in the Midwest. Students can choose from more than 70 degree programs, but most of those programs require that students take religious studies courses. The main HU campus in Indiana has an enrollment of more than 1,200 students.

Huntington University Accreditation Details

With accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM), music majors at Huntington gain the skills that they need to perform in front of others. Some of the other programs offered by this Christian university that have accreditation include those in education, nursing, occupational therapy, and social work. Huntington University also has regional accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), To maintain that accreditation, the university keeps track of its renewal status and has a team looking out for any potential problems.

Huntington University Application Requirements

The HU application starts with a simple question that lets students describe their overall status. They can pick from options such as an adult returning to school or a high school graduate. Though the university does not have a strict application deadline, it recommends that students apply by the beginning of the year. It typically creates and sends out award packages by the second week in March. Undergrads need to provide transcripts that show they took three years of social studies, two years of science, three years of mathematics and four years of English courses. The university asks for a $20 application fee and a $150 enrollment deposit too.

All HU graduate programs require a completed application, a $30 application fee and at least one transcript. Students who attended more than one college or university and received credits from those schools must submit transcripts from each one. Their transcripts must show the student’s GPA and the type of degree awarded. The MBA program requires a resume that makes note of any business experience the applicant has. Other programs such as the occupational therapy track require a GPA of 3.0 also. Certain departments may contact students and ask that they provide several references and contact information for those references. Students may also need to complete an interview before beginning an HU graduate program.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Part-time undergrads attending HU pay $444 to $782 per credit hour based on the total number of classes they take in that semester. Full-time students pay $25,956 per year. The university charges different fees for students who take classes during the J-term or in the summer. Undergrads can also sign up for university housing and pay a room and board fee each term. Graduate students pay between $400 and $550 per credit hour for their classes. They also pay a $100 technology fee each semester when they take any online courses.

To help students with their total costs, the university offers payment plans. Students can sign up for different plans that allow them to make multiple payments each term or year. Those who need help can also use the FAFSA and get aid from HU and the government. HU has jobs and hires students to fill open positions every year and offers several scholarship programs. Students can use any of the federal loan programs or choose alternative loans that they can get on their own or with a co-signer. Both graduate and undergraduate students at Huntington University can get financial aid each year that they enroll in a degree program.
