Ranked in the South’s top 141 colleges by the U.S. News & World Report, Faulkner University is a nonprofit, coed Churches of Christ CCCU member in Montgomery that confers 39 bachelor’s, 12 master’s, and three doctoral majors, including 23 online, at a 15:1 student-teacher ratio. For example, the Thomas Goode Jones School of Law has a 120-credit, ABA-approved B.S. in Legal Studies with more than 130 aspiring paralegals securing 200-hour internships like the Alabama Supreme Court, US Court of Appeals 11th Circuit, and Balch & Bingham LLP. Chaired by Dr. Dave Khadanga, the Executive B.S. in Business follows a 60-credit, upper-division plan online so associate transfers age 23+ can specialize in Logistics, Health Administration, or Management for 90 percent job placement.

Online on Blackboard Learn, the College of Education delivers a 30-credit, CAEP-accredited M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction with Elementary, Biology, History, Mathematics, and English Language Arts tracks to K-6 or 6-12 Class A teacher licensure after fast five-week courses like Advanced Pedagogy. Since Fall 2018, the M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology has built a 64-credit, five-semester Montgomery sequence directed by Dr. Leah Fullman for ASHA certification after 400+ supervised practicum hours at the Faulkner Clinic, Special Needs Day Camp, and other medical centers.

Additional offerings include the A.S. in Information Science, B.S. in Forensic Psychology, B.S. in Biology, B.A. in Music, M.A. in Christian Ministry, LL.M. in Dispute Resolution, M.A. in History, and Ph.D. in Humanities.

About Faulkner University

Faulkner University originated on April 13, 1942, when Drs. Rex Turner, Leonard Johnson, and Joe Greer paired up to establish the Montgomery Bible College for preacher training on Ann Street. One decade later, it was reorganized into Alabama Christian College. In 1964, ACC acquired the current 29-building campus off Route 231 in Montgomery. On January 1, 1971, Alabama Christian received initial regional accreditation. In 1975, its Churches of Christ education spread God’s Word further to Birmingham, Mobile, and Huntsville extensions. In 1983, it purchased the School of Law started by Judge Walter B. Jones 55 years prior. In 1985, the Board of Trustees voted to rename it Faulkner University after the Monroe Journal owner. In 2001, Faulkner won its first NCCAA national championship in baseball. In 2019, Faulkner announced plans to renovate the 300,000-volume Gus Nichols Library.

Endowed for $18.5 million, Faulkner University now employs 120 full-time faculty teaching 3,262 Eagles from 35 countries online, on the 74-acre Montgomery campus, or at three Alabama extensions with 30+ clubs like Delta Xi Omega for 57 percent retention. In 2009, Faulkner received the AASFAA Cecil Padgett Outstanding Achievement Award. In 2013, Faulkner won the First Place Award at the National Trial Advocacy Competition. Its Thomas Goode Jones School of Law accepted a 2013 Alabama State Bar Pro Bono Award too. The Princeton Review named Faulkner University the sixth most conservative nationwide. On Niche, Faulkner boasts America’s 171st best dorms, 267th hardest admission, and 423rd safest location. College Factual placed Faulkner 108th for business, 138th for law, and 129th for Biblical studies degrees. Washington Monthly crowned Faulkner the 165th best baccalaureate choice.

Faulkner University Accreditation Details

In 2009, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) Board of Trustees extended the Level VI accreditation at Faulkner University via the Quality Enhancement Plan Pathway through 2019-20 under the eighth president, Dr. Michael D. Williams, who earned the Alabama HEAL Hero Award. Located 163 miles up Interstate 85 in Decatur, this great 11-state Gulf Coast Region accreditor is recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and Alabama Commission on Higher Education. The Office of the President also lists the following degree accreditations:

Faulkner University Application Requirements

Enrolling at Faulkner University is classified “minimally difficult” by Peterson’s though only 1,110 of the 2,446 Fall 2017 applicants were successful for selective 45 percent acceptance. First-year Eagles must be qualified high school graduates or GED recipients of good moral character. Completing at least 15 college-prep academic units graded “C” or better is mandated. The Class of 2021 presented an average 3.26 GPA. The middle 50th percentile had SAT composite scores of 920-1150. Mid-range admitted ACT scores were 18-22. Dual enrollment seniors must achieve a minimum 22 ACT mark. Online bachelor’s, including the B.S. in Criminal Justice, require already holding 60+ transfer credits with GPAs above 2.0. The Graduate Admissions Office requires cumulative GPAs over 2.75 in bachelor’s preparation. Several options, such as the M.A. in Humanities, require 3.0 or better GPAs. Several have set a 297 GRE or 400 MAT testing benchmark. Online Master of Education entrants must hold a Class B teaching license.

Faulkner University has rolling admission with no final undergrad deadlines listed. It’s suggested associate/bachelor’s majors apply by August 1st for Fall, December 1st for Spring, and April 1st for Summer enrollment. The M.A. in Biblical Studies has July 31st and December 1st deadlines. M.S. in Counseling cohorts can file until January 3rd, April 15th, or July 17th. The M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology has a firm February 1st deadline. Juris Doctor entrants must apply before June 15th. The Ph.D. in Humanities closes on June 1st, November 5th, and March 28th. Tuition and Financial Aid

For 2019-20, Faulkner University is billing traditional full-time undergrads $11,590 each term or $23,180 annually. Part-time campus learners spend $700 per credit. Summer School sessions are reduced to $325 per credit. Bachelor’s majors cover the $650 general fee each term. Living at the Montgomery housing like Baldwin Hall adds $1,800 to $2,300 each semester for rent. The Platinum Eagle meal plan for J.L. Perry Cafeteria is $2,000 extra. Faulkner budgets $1,800 for books and $4,200 for miscellaneous. Annual undergrad attendance equals about $35,440 on-site or $28,190 if commuting. Online associate/bachelor’s courses are $395 per credit. Graduate programs are generally $550 per credit. However, the M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology costs $750 per credit. Ph.D. in Biblical Studies cohorts afford $560 per credit. The M.A. in Literature is cheaper at $470 per credit.

According to the NCES College Navigator, the Financial Aid Office in Collum Rotunda Room 130 links 73 percent of full-time Faulkner Eagles to tuition assistance averaging $8,858 apiece for $17.23 million combined. Institutional programs include the President’s Award, Dean’s Award, National Merit Finalist Scholarship, Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship, Transfer Scholarship, Christian Camp Award, Christian High School Scholarship, Lads to Leaders Award, Alumni/Sibling Scholarship, Heritage Award, Valedictorian Scholarship, Religious Service Scholarship, and Church of Christ Award. The Founder’s Award gifts $8,500 annually to exemplary freshmen meeting the 1310 SAT or 28 ACT minimum. The $7,500 Trustee’s Award selects first-year applicants with 23-27 ACT or 1140-1240 SAT scores. Federal resources, such as the Pell Grant and Work-Study Grant, require FAFSA forms coded 001003. The Alabama Student Grant has September 16th, January 15th, February 17th, and April 15th deadlines for in-state undergrads.
